A good weekend

The snow fell almost all day yesterday and is still falling today. It is as if it is in slow motion and it is really beautiful, especially when the sun comes out. Everything looks better when the sun is out doesn't it? Well, not everything I guess. It tends to shed light on all that needs to be dusted around here :) Yesterday I was excited to go get all of the ingredients I needed to try out a new recipe; Swooney Potato and Corn Chowder. Something about a cold, winter day says soup! I love cooking and baking. I think mostly because it is one of the ways I show Dave and the boys how much I love them. The soup was delicious and was also our lunch today :)

Not only did I get to try out a new recipe this weekend, but I got to do something else I love...go shopping. Dave and I took the boys and hit Goodwill, Salvation Army and the Womens Resource Center. We love looking for cool vintage things or just cool things for that matter. Check out this find...it was only $45!!!

And last but not least, I baked whole wheat banana muffins in my $3 muffin tin I scooped up at the WRC as well. It was a low key but fun weekend. The boys and Dave are napping now...I think I should sign off and try to catch some sleep as well.

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend with the people you love. I sure did!

Latest finds

I have been wanting to go to Goodwill for some time and yesterday we finally went. I love farm paintings and finally found one...one that I could afford. There is a little barn in this painting across the lake and I fell in love with it when I saw it. I flipped it over and it was painted by a lady named Sue Behrens(how ironic)and she is from Michigan. The painting is titled, "Fish House" and was a whopping $3.99. I love it! Dave is going to help me repaint the frame so I will post the final product when it is finished.

My next find was a vintage Pyrex bowl. It is the faded turquoise one in the picture. This was only 99 cents :)

Anyways, this little shopping trip brought a little sunshine into my day and I thought I would share.

More winter fun in Northern Michigan...

I feel so blessed to live in Northern Michigan. I hope that Ethan will look back on his childhood here and cherish all of the memories he made. Today Dave took Ethan for a "father & son" day ice fishing on Clam Lake. Not only am I thankful for the beautiful State we live in, but also for my wonderful husband who I believe is the BEST dad. I was lucky to have the BEST dad and am so thankful God has blessed my boys with the BEST dad too!

Snowman

Today the temperature finally went up a little so we could finally build our first snowman of the season. Ethan was SO excited. After Carter was down for a nap we headed outside. The snow still wasn't the best for packing, but we made do and created our own little "snow guy!" Ethan was most excited to find his stick arms and put the carrot in for his nose. We can't wait to show Daddy when he gets home from work tonight.

Decorating...

Here are a few pictures of the basement...a coninual work-in-progress. Dave hung our print of our favorite beach, Good Harbor(he made the frame himself) and my scrapbook cubby above the desk in our guest bedroom.

We also finally hung a book shelf to hold all of Dave's OLD books he has collected. It feels good to really start decorating the basement! Hope to post more pictures soon.
